Monthly Archives: June 2015

End of the Month

5082188940_9da2a52e46

Can you believe that it is the end of June already? Not only is it the end of the month, but it is also the half way point of the year. this month, I have completed the main project that I have set out to do. I have finished the second draft of my upcoming book: Sailing Under The Black Flag. I also wrote all of the Bubblews that I said that I would write this month. Ihave done some work on my travel trailer, I have done some painting and I have installed the air conditioner, however, there is so many more projects to complete.

End Of The First Half Of The Year

Here is how i am doing affirmations that I have set up so far for this year:

January” ” I am organized and productive. As you know, I moved at the beginning of the month and had to move quickly so I have been working this month at trying to get organized. I have not finished it yet, but I have made a start. I have been painting my kitchen cabinets and painted the desk in my livingroom. It is really starting to take shape.

February: “I am energetic, fit,, strong, and healthy”..I am continuing to eat healthy foods. During this month, my daughter has been visiting, and I have been super hot. When I am uncomfortable I tend to eat. I feel uncomfortable when I am hot so I have found myself eating more than I should. Also when my daughter is visiting, I like to take her out to eat and so again, i am eating more. Exercising has also not been high on my to do list so it has not been done either.

March:  “I First seek to Understand, then seek to be understood” I think that I have fallen short in this area too. Both in the understanding and being understood part. My husband and his girlfriend decided to come down here for a camping trip while my daughter was here. They then asked her to go with them. She, of course, wanted to go because they were also going on a float trip. All this was during few days that I had to be with my daughter. I ended up yelling at my daughter for wanting to go. I feel bad about it.. I tried to understand, but I am certain that I have not been understood.

April:“I am a spiritual being in a physical body”. With this one, I seem to be becoming more and more aware that this is true. The problems that I have been facing lately have been a challenge both for me physically and spiritually. I have been living on my spiritual edge.

May: “I am In Control of My Destiny.” I have been having to remind myself of this constantly this month. I am in control, even though I do not feel like it right now. I am having to take life one day at a time, forgive myself of my mistakes and move on. This is after all a journey.

June: “I am a Prolific Writer” Yes, I am a prolific writer. I am almost as I thought I was!  I have found that Parkinson’s Law is indeed true for the most part. Work does fill the time available for it,  but it does have its limits. I missed two of these blog posts.I did however meet my goal of finishing the second draft of Sailing Under The Black Flag.

Looking Ahead To The Second Half Of The Year

As you probably guessed, one of my goals for July is to finish the second draft of yet another book this one is In the Shadow Of The Mill Pond. Again, finishing this draft in July will keep me on track to finish the three books that I intend to publish this year.  I intend to publish A Coward’s Solace at the end of July, to publish Sailing Under the Black Flag in September. In November for NaNoWriMo, I will be doing the first draft of a book that is not yet named(book 6 of the Locket Saga. I will then be publishing In the Shadow of the Mill Pond in December..Although I am somewhat keeping up with the affirmations of the first half of the year, there are a few of the goals that I wrote at the beginning of the year that I have not actually started working on yet.  The main goal that I have not yet accomplished or actually started working on much is selling 1000 books per month. i am nowhere near that number. I will really start focusing on that goal after I finish the second draft of In The Shadow Of The Mill Pond in July. I have actually been seeing some ways that I should be able to make that happen. In addition to finishing the two novels and getting my trailer fixed up, this is going to be my main focus during the second half of the year.

Counting My Blessings

Hands_of_God_and_Adam

I am becoming a very grateful person. So many good things have come into my life. I look at all that I feel blessed  the fact that I can wake up in the morning and breathe without machines and the fact that I do not have to take medications either. Most of the people my age are not so fortunate. I feel blessed that I have a car to drive and a home to live in in which I have not payments to make. (I wish I could say the same about my college debt, but I am working on that.)
I am learning to count my blessings in every situation rather than anything that can be negative about that situation. It helps me focus on the possibilities rather than the problems. Although I have had relationships that have ended, I do not regret any of them that I have had. I have three wonderful children despite broken relationships with their father.
I spend a specific time each day to think about everything that I am thankful for. This time is just as I am going to sleep. Nothing is more peaceful that the knowledge that I have so much to be thankful for.
I try to share my gratitude with at least one person every week. I hope that by doing so, it helps that person have a better day.
I thank people for service that they have given me. What better way to improve someone else’s day than by thanking them for a service that is often not acknowledged nor appreciated.
I also try to look for the blessings that are attached to my goals. I look for those times when others have gone out of their way to help me. I look for those people who encourage me so that I can be grateful. I look for those ways that others have made my day just that much better.

I am blessed in the knowledge that I have completed the second draft of my next novel: Sailing Under The Black Flag a few days early. Early enough that I can get caught up on other writing projects and ahead before i have to work on the second draft of my next book: In The Shadow Of The Millpond.

Safe but Curious

We are told to step out of our comfort zone, but at the same time, we are also told to think things through before stepping out into the unknown, both are polar opposites, and yet, they are also both very true.

Curiosity Killed the cat, but satisfaction brought him back.”

In everything there needs to be a balance. If there is one thing that I learned when I was in my philosophy classes in college was that what is true for one person’s circumstance is not always true for another person’s. It is not even necessarily true for the same person in different circumstances.
Have you ever stood on the edge of a cliff and looked over a large drop-off? One wrong step and you could be history, but you still stand on the edge. Why is that? It is because the view is breathtaking. If you stayed where it is safest, you would not have been able to see things from that vantage point.
Playing it safe is. . .well. . . safe, but stepping out of our comfort zone can be so much more rewarding. Think about ways that you can step out and be noticed.

My life lately has been like that I am very near the edge of my comfort zone and at time I feel very uncomfortable.as of late, I have been over extending myself.  However, in the process, my world is ever expanding and I am finding satisfaction as I make those changes in my life.

What should I do now?

What should I do now?

As you probably noticed, my post for Monday and Last Friday were the same. I had the day scheduled, but I neglected to put anything on it besides my signature information at the end of the post. Not that it was such a bad think. I actually had someone share it on his Facebook page.

No Excuses

I could easily make up an excuse for dropping the ball. I have a lot of them. I could also say that I should just let the blog go for a while, but I am not going to do that. Today I am picking the ball back up and continuing with this blog.

Why I Dropped The Ball

When we drop the ball, it is always a good idea to understand exactly what happened and why. The truth was, I actually forgot on both Friday and Monday to write the posts. There is a difference between understanding why and making an excuse. An excuse is a way for a person to find a way to quit. I am not quitting.

This month my goal and affirmation is to be a proficient writer and I certainly am. I dropped just two blog posts since the first of the year. In addition, I have to go into town in order to post my blog posts. i live 12 miles from town. In addition, to writing this week, I have been running all over creation for things to fix up my trailer. I got my air conditioner in Monday night. With temperatures running in the mid-nineties and high humidity, a good air conditioner is a necessity.

Finally, my daughter is visiting me and we have been doing things together including visiting friends, going out to dinner, and going to the river. This week she is helping me paint the cabinets in my trailer.

Getting Back On Track

So today, it is time to get back on track. So how do I prevent this from happening again in the future?

The obvious answer is that I must not over-commit to so many things in one week. Over-commitment is the number one reason for anyone to forget to do something.

Another answer is to make and keep a schedule. Since moving I have not been keeping a schedule. Over the weekend, I started working on one.

Becoming more organized again is another answer. There are a number of things that I will need to do to make my life more organized, but certain aspects of organizing  the trailer are going to take some additional time including getting internet in my home.

Over the next several weeks, I will continue to write (the second draft on Book Four of the Locket Saga: Sailing Under The Shadow of the Black Flag is still right on track.), work on my trailer, and keep up with my other writing projects including keeping up with this blog.

Rainbows on Saturday and Sunday

5082188940_9da2a52e46

Look for the rainbows on your journey.

It has been raining a lot here lately and on my way home from work this weekend at eight o’clock at night I saw rainbows both on Saturday and on Sunday. On each day, at exactly the same time, I saw rainbows. This gave me the sense that  perhaps, someone was trying to tell me something.
I reread the story of Noah. (Genesis chapters 6-9).because the promise of the rainbow was significant to the story.  I reread the story of Noah and the trial that he faced that God led him through. In the end, God put the rainbow in the clouds to remind Noah and future generations of God’s covenant with all of the earth. He promised never again to destroy all of the earth by water. Eventually there is coming a judgement not by water, but by fire.
As I think about those two consecutive days of rainbows, I thought about the covenant that God has with the believer. Our first covenant with God is through water baptism. A second is through the baptism of the Holy Spirit. The first is by water, the second is by fire. I didn’t really  understand the connection, but a friend on another site explained it to me. He said that the only way a person can witness a rainbow is that the individual has to be in the right place at the right time. In addition, we have to be looking up..

It  was a reminder to me that God loves me and that he is protecting me. I felt gratitude as I drove home both days.

Restoration

Another way that we can have rainbows in our lives is when we look for the ways that we see God at work doing other things.

On Saturday,  I I answered a call at work. To my surprise, it was the guy who had stolen my debit card at work over a month and a half earlier. He called to tell me that he was sorry that he had taken it and that he was glad that I pressed charges, because he had been really messed up and now he was going to be getting the help that he needed.
I told him that I appreciated that he had called me and talked to me. I said that he indeed did need help and that I hoped that he got it.
He told me that he would pay me back the money that he stole. I basically told him that was out of my hands because the bank had covered what he had taken and they would demand that he give the money back. I told him that I had forgiven him and that I was glad that he was getting the help that he needed to overcome his addictions. I pray that this has been a turning point in his life. He has a wife and two little boys who really need a father who will step up and be a the husband and father that they need.
I do not believe that he is likely to spend any time in jail. His mother paid for a good lawyer for him. Just months ago, I would have been upset because it looks as if the young man is getting off easy. However, now, I just pray that this has been a lesson that he will never forget. I pray that he goes into drug rehab (he took the money to buy drugs) and really does change. I know that overcoming addiction is difficult, and I pray that the incident is a wake-up call for him, that he becomes a better husband and father to his family.
I realize that although most of what happened was about him, it was also my test. I did what I had to do when I turned him in to the sheriff’s office. However, in personally forgiving him, I also did what I had to do. It was all about doing the right thing and I know that is exactly what I did. The right thing now it to forgive him and become a different part of the solution.

Am I Now A Fiction Writing Coach?

I thought that one of the guys that I worked with knew that I was a published author, but he did not.  He asked me what I wrote so I told him what books I had written.
He then found it strange that I mentioned being an author because he too used to write, but over the past several months he was not able to put words to paper. I asked him what he wrote and he told me that he wrote science fiction fantasy. However, he said that he had not written for 4-5 months. He had been thinking just the night before that perhaps he should quit thinking about writing all together. I told him that I didn’t think that was such a good idea. I suggested that he try again.
The next day when I saw him, I asked him how much he had written and he confessed that he was not able to write a single word. I told him what he had was writer’s block and that his problem was that he was afraid to make a mistake. He agreed that was exactly what the problem was.
I told him to give his internal editor a rest, and let his muse play a little.

Suggestions For Entertaining The Muse

I told him:

  1. Forget the rules and just write Have fun with the words.
  2. Don’t worry about the order of what was writing and to just write what you knew now. Computers were made to move words around so he should take advantage of that capability.
  3. Write an outline to help give your story parameters.
  4. Interview his characters so that you could separate the characters from your own personality.
  5. To steal from Niki, don’t think about it, just do it, write it down. Make every moment at the computer count. Don’t let your internal editor out until you have something to edit

The Results

Later that day, he texted me and told me that he had written one scene that was 404 words long. He said it felt good to be writing again. He said that he was looking forward to doing more. The following day he said that he had a number of new ideas for his book. His dry spell is over. His words are now flowing like a fountain.

These are just two more of the rainbows that I have witnessed over the past several days. How about you? Are there things in your life that you might not otherwise see if you had not been in the right place at the right time?

Don’t Think Of A Pink Elephant!

pink elephant

If I told you don’t think about an elephant with a top hat, I will bet that right now you are thinking about an elephant with a top hat. This is evidence that  we resist, really does persist!.

What We Resist Persists

Someone once said that our unconscious minds cannot discern the meaning of the concept of not. I tend to believe that is true. This reinforces the success principle: Where you focus your energy, focuses your attention.

What you resist persists because that is where your focus lies. Rather than looking at what you don’t want to do, look at what you want to do!
One effective way to keep from thinking negative thoughts is by focusing your attention on a mantra to help you focus on your goal. The mantra that I am using is “I can do this and I know I can. Whatever you chose to repeat over and over needs to be in the present tense (I am). My monthly affirmations are a form of mantra. This month is “I am a prolific writer”.

Therefore, I have a system that gets me enthusiastic about the goals that I have for the day. Before I begin each session,  i set a timer and repeat over and over the words, “I can do this, and I know I can” over and over for five minutes. I focus on my breathing, the mantra, and that I am calm and confident. After the five minutes is up, I begin writing. I do it the same time every day and don’t quit until I have at least one thousand words on my novel. Later at the library,  I determine which bubblew or blog post that I need to write and I work on it until I am done.

If I had however, focused on the fact that I have a lot to do, I doubt I would get any of it done. I would start making excuses concerning why I cannot get it done. As you can see however, I am not doing that. I am reaching my daily, weekly, and monthly goals. In just over six months I will have also completed my annual goals because I am not focusing on negative aspects of my goals.

Don’t Hang Onto Bad Relationships

I saw my estranged husband the other day and I told him about speaking in front of an audience the other day. He tried to take credit saying that what he had been saying to me had finally sunk in. i have no idea where he thought that he had anything to do with the positive place where I am now. I always felt that he was the one who kept me from reaching for my goals. I felt as though he thought that my goals were not worthy to attempt. I felt as though any time that I wanted to do something, he made it all the more difficult to do it because he stressed my inabilities rather than my abilities.

I told him that I realized that neither of us were good for the other and that we were stuck in that relationship for too long. Staying too long in a relationship that does not serve either party is definitely something that someone should not do.

By proving myself worthy of  daunting tasks, , I take myself from “I can’t do this” to “look what I have done”and in the process building my self- confidence.

What should I do now?

Busy at work

Keeping Up The Accelerated Pace

I have been pushing myself this month with my affirmation:” I am a prolific writer”.  so far I have managed to keep up the pace that I set for myself. So far I have 67 thousand total words on my current novel in progress. In addition, I have maintained the number of bubblews that I have said that I would write and, and of course, I have kept up with three posts here every week on my blog.

In addition to writing, I have been working on different aspects of my travel trailer. For the most part, I have been cleaning and putting things away so far. I also have been making plans to upgrade plumbing and wiring as well as I have been thinking about painting. I have not yet decided what I am going to do exactly, but I am definitely giving the insides of my cabinets a fresh coat of white primer just to make them appear clean and make it easier to wipe down when necessary..

Adding to that, I have been doing some public speaking. Well, okay, so  I spoke at one church. I have also been attending other churches so that people can get to know me so that when I do ask to speak, they are more likely to say yes.

The best about all of this that I am not making excuses for why something cannot be done. I am learning that if I want to do something, I can do whatever that is. I just have to want to.

Enjoying Nature

5082188940_9da2a52e46

You would think that as busy as I have been, I wouldn’t have time to spend in nature, but every day, I make it a point to watch the birds eating the mulberries in my front yard. I have seen a variety of birds as I have not seen before. We have bluebirds, indigo buntings, blue jays, whip-or-wills, Baltimore orioles, sparrows, and a pair of cardinals who seem to have made the tree their property. There is a chipmunk who has taken residence near the trailer and I see him every day as well. Once I looked out my back window and saw a tiny hummingbird sitting on a branch and taking a breather. What a beautiful place to get to do my writing!

Writing My Goals Out

Taking a break from writing and enjoying nature helps me take a breather from writing just it did for that little hummingbird. Another habit that I have developed is to write my goals out. When I write my goals, I write a goal that is specific, time limited, and something that I really want to do or at least be able to say that I have finished. Sometimes just the idea that I will have something done so I can cross it off the list is enough for me to finish that job. Having written it down and giving it a deadline  I have looked at the goals that I have set for myself at the beginning of the year and so far I am quite pleased with my progress. I cannot wait to compare what I have done with what I have intended to do at the end of this month. I am amazed at my progress.

Budgeting my Goals

A series of goals that I have to complete, that were not on the original goal list at the beginning of the year for 2015 involves the trailer. The other day I wrote down a number of projects that I need to finish at certain times over the next several months.

I have realized that certain things need to be completed by certain times during the next several months. I still have issues related to the water system in the house (need hot water heater, and toilet leaks). As well as electric (using temporary system for now. (I need to replace the old fuse box with a breaker box.) Also I need to figure out what to do about heating and cooling. (My son has a small air conditioner that I can use. Also I need skirting around the trailer before snow flies. All this is not only going to mean a budget of money, but a budget of time. There are only so many hours until winter comes again!

My fourteen year old daughter is coming to stay with me starting Monday, and I hope that I will be able to get her interested in helping me do some things. We will see how that works!

Where God Speaks

Hands_of_God_and_Adam

I have been trying to listen to God (Holy Spirit) through my spirit. A couple of months ago I learned that my spirit is found in my gut, rather than in my mind or in my emotions. Some of the places in a word in the original language says heart, should actually read “belly” or “gut”.

Years ago I learned that whenever I sensed something in what I called my intuition, I was always right. This understanding of gut knowledge has me now to hear from that place what it is that God has for me to do. My problem was that I did not understand that that place was where my spirit is.

God Spoke, I Listened

Because of the nature of my job, for the first time in eight months that I worked there, I have not had a single Sunday off until three weeks ago. I had been going to a Tuesday nigh and a Wednesday night  Bible study,  but could not get to church on Sundays.Because I had missed church, I determined that I would go to three services in three different churches. The first church was a denominational church, but the second two were nondenominational churches. In  the second, they had a food distribution going on in which I helped. In the final church, even though I had never been there before, I felt as though i was home.

At the end of the service, I felt the prompting in my spirit to go up to the pastor of the congregation and ask him if I could give a message at his church on June 7th.  As I said, I did not know the pastor, but I did feel as though I needed to ask.

It was not as hard to ask as I thought it would be. I even told the pastor that I understood if he said no. He did not however, said no. He said maybe. I didn’t hear back from him, but on June 7th, I showed up with a message.

Mind you, I had never preached a message in front of a church group before and I even told the congregation that. I was obviously nervous, but everything went well. I knew that I needed more experience and I really want to be able to do that more.

The Message

thunderstormThe message that I gave was out of Luke 11, John 11 and John 12. It was about Mary, the sister of Martha and Lazarus who sat at Jesus feet, listening to what he had to say. She faced ridicule from her sister. She questioned Jesus when he allowed her brother to die. She then received revelation that Jesus was going to the cross and she wanted to serve him by anointing his feet with Spikenard, an oil that offered physical, emotional, and spiritual healing because she knew the pain that he was going to face on the cross.

Today, like Martha, we are often too busy to take the time to listen to Jesus as Mary did. If we are to get revelation from God, then we need to take the time to spend at his feet listening.

We need to be willing to question Jesus. It says in the word that we receive not because we ask not. Perhaps our problem as Christians is that we think we are supposed to have it all together. The truth is, in our earthly physical bodies, we never will. It is only in Jesus that we can know anything of lasting value.

Nothing is really mystical about what Jesus offers us. Our duty as Christians is primarily to love as Jesus loved and to listen to what he would have us do next.

I hope that I never get too busy to listen to what Jesus Christ has to tell me.

What Do You Do To Feed Your Soul?

summer in the Ozarks 001

A soul goal is a goal that is so important, that it meets every one of your most intimate goals. It touches you down into your emotional and spiritual levels. The other day I was at the grocery store and a woman was ahead of me at the checkout and she didn’t have enough on her EBT card to pay for all of her groceries. I just happened to have the exact change in my pocket and I gave it to her with no strings attached. It probably excited me more than it did her to give it to her. This is part of what it means to have a soul goal.

My writing involves my soul goal in that what I write is not just historical romantic fiction, but it is Christian historical romantic fiction. Every one of my books not only offers entertainment, but it also offers a Biblical perspective that is different from a lot of the Christian historical romances that are out there. This feeds my soul in a way that other things don’t.

Another aspect of feeding my soul involves living a simple lifestyle. I work a job which doesn’t demand much from my physically or mentally, but I do it because it simply brings in cash flow. I also only work three days per week. This way I have four days off per week focus on following my writing passion. My plans are to include a small garden this year (with future plans to expand it) to get some chickens and a couple of goats. My house is small (less than 300 square feet). I own my trailer and my truck outright. Also I would like to explore the idea of producing my own solar electricity. This feeds my soul because I feel as though I am not only protecting the environment, but I am not overusing my share of the world’s natural resources.

What should I do now?

I am writing so much, the keyboard is smoking!

Affirmation: I am a Prolific Writer

As of today, I have added another 3000 words to my book’s second draft giving me over 63 thousand words. The reason that I am able to keep up with this pace so far is because I had Sunday off. We will see if I can continue my good fortune as the month progresses. It would be nice if I could not only finish this second draft, but also get a head start on next month!
