Knowing Why I’m Here

Why am I here?

One of the things that I recently realized is that I need to get serious about using a business plan for my authorship/publishing business so that I can better understand my purpose.. In order to do that, one of the first things that I need to work on is making certain that my business plan has a mission statement that jells with my own personal mission statement.
Several months ago my affirmation was “I am a spiritual being on a physical journey” and I have incorporated that affirmation into my life to the point where I can see that it is the truth at least for me in my personal life.
To some extent, it is also true in my writing as well. I do have Christian content in my books, and I hope that it is not just Christians who are reading my books. I hope, to some extent, that those who do not believe as I do will enjoy the stories that I tell. As I see it, people liked to come hear Jesus speak and tell stories too (parables) and few of them (at first anyway) committed to anything that he was trying to show them. I am certain, however, that what he did influenced many of them perhaps in later years.
In Romans 8:28 it says that “all things work toward the good of them that love God who are called according to his purpose.” I see where that had been happening lately for me. I have a purpose in my life that God has ordained and it is definitely related to my writing and publishing what I write. I am working on updating my mission statement on my publishing company mission statement to state that. Part of it is included in my publishing logo, “Writing the Books Folks ‘Swan’ to read, but it doesn’t include that spiritual aspect that is central to my purpose therefore my mission statement needs to be more than just that logo. During the next couple weeks any way, from time to time I will be working on that mission statement. I’ll let you know how that turns out. .
How about you? First, do you have a business with a good business plan? If so, does your business’s mission statement include a spiritual component fused into its fiber?

  1. I majored in Marketing and I’ve owned three businesses. You better believe I have a business plan and mission statement….glad to see you working on that.

I didn’t know that! I would love to see your business plan and emulate it! Perhaps you could write a book for authors who don”t have your background. (Like me!)
