Five True Statements You Should Meditate on Every Morning
Meet My New Old Friend
How many of your friends on Facebook do you actually know? If you’re like me, I have a number of “friends” on Facebook with whome I have shared numerous posts, but I have never actually met in person. This past week I met Jean Morris, wife of the pastor at Wrightsville Community Church in Corry, Pennsylvania. She had friended me originally on Facebook because she thought I might be her friend named Donna Bron.I agreed because she lived in my hometown. We have numerous photos, joys, triumphs, prayer requests, and sadnesses online. Snce I was coming up to Corry, I asked her if we could have coffee and she agreed and invited me into her home.
We spend a good couple of hours talking. One thing wonderful about meeting other Christians is that we always have something in common and soon the conversation turned toward our faith. Jean shared something that she has been doing and I asked her to it to me. I decided to share it here on this blog because I believe that it is something that would build anyone’s faith. It is called the Five True Statements You should Use Every Day.. this is written in Jean’s own words.
They are–
1. God is who He says He is.
2.God can do what He says He can do.
3. I am who God says I am.
4. I can do all things through Christ.
5. God’s Word is alive and active in me.
Remember that during your quiet times you could turn those into questions. You might be amazed at some of the answers you get, and how life changing it can be. Here is an example from my own journal.( when I journal this exercise I always conclude with a “my thoughts” section.)
1. God is who He says He is.
“Who are you today God?”
I am your PEACE
2.God can do what He says He can do.
What can you do for me today?
I can help you live in PEACE in your innermost being.
3. I am who God says I am.
Who am I God?
You are EQUIPPED and ABLE to live in my peace.
4. I can do all things through Christ.
What can I do today, God, with your help?
You can end all the confusion in your thoughts and emotions by simply resting in my peace!
5. Gods word is alive and active in me.
What do you want to show me today in your word, God?
John 14:27 “Peace I leave with you, my peace I give you. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”
My thoughts: days like yesterday, when my thoughts and emotions are in a turmoil and my doubts and fears are running high, why do I fail to stop and say a little prayer and give them all to Jesus? I really need to work on that! No, not “work”. Trying to “work” it out myself is what messes me up. Every time. I need to just give it to Jesus and REST. Rest in Him. And let His PEACE flood over me and through me and in the light of His presence things cannot stay the same. So why does ” resting” come so hard? I am a person who likes to take control and take charge. RESTING in His peace gives HIM control. And why not? Who better to be in control of me than the God who created all and knows all and is in all? Lord, help me to Rest in your Peace. amen.
A Word Journal
Another thing she suggested to do was to create what she called a “word journal”. In the last week of December she would ask the Lord what word he wanted her to meditate on during the next year. She started last year and the word was “trust” this year it was “joy”. If you or I were to do it, it might be a different word that the Lord gives you. Then you create a journal where you make a title page, (decorate ihow you wish. Then during the year you look for ways to fill your journal with thoughts about this word. You could write random thoughts, you could write poems, music, draw pictures, dinclude music lyrics, or anything that the lord shows you about that word during that year.
It was wonderful getting to know this sister in the Lord in person. I am excited to put these suggestions to work for me. In addition, I love the fact that I have finally met this sister in person and now our Facebook posts will have new meaning.
